Beside these essential indicators the dial has been left quite clear. After every 15-minute interval the index markers appears in a faux-patina beige-like hue, just like the prominent triangle figure. ![]() Circling around the flange is a ring of white printed minute markings. Time is exhibited on a military green dial with white printed Arabic numerals and the iconic IWC “triangle” with a dot on each side, located at the 12 o’clock position. Water-resistance on this watch can reach up to 100 meters (328 feet). This crystal has also been secured against displacement by a drop in air pressure. All topped by a convex sapphire glass with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. It also comes equipped with a screw-in crown designed in the iconic IWC big diamond shape with a machined circumference, which provides a firm grip for quick-sets. This case features a soft-iron inner case for protection against magnetic fields. On the flip-side is a solid titanium screw-on caseback decoratively engraved with the “Spitfire” aircraft, after which this timepiece has been named. ![]() ![]() It will still develop a unique patina over time, which allows each timepiece to gain its own distinct look. The 43mm case is made of a proprietary bronze alloy that is 50 percent harder than standard bronze. Plus the military green dial on this new edition was a great way to honor the “Spitfire” legacy. It turns out there were many fans of this timepiece that found the 43mm case to be a better wrist fit. The downsized version of IWC’s 46.2mm “Big Pilot’s Watch” has proven a success, despite the initial comments of some naysayers.
